All of the fourth graders have been learning to play the recorder with a very fun, and challenging program called, Recorder Karate! There are a variety of songs that become more and more challenging to play as they go. Hence, the different colored belts that are just like earning real karate belts!
Students have been doing a wonderful job playing recorder this year, and I’ve had a fun time listening to everyone! Musical rhythm notation is based on a number pattern. By taking music rhythms and putting them into math problems that include addition, subraction, multiplication and even division creates complicated problems that students learn how to solve in music class!

Third grade students have been working in Art and Music classes to create traditional Aborigional artwork and instrumental music to accompany the variety of aboriginal animals. This is a photo story of the final product.
All 4th grade students have been working very hard on learning and practicing their new recorders! I was luckily to learn about a fun, and exciting recorder curriculum this summer called, RECORDER KARATE, and thought it would would be a great way to teach the students at MBS the recorder for the first time! All the 4th graders have been doing a fantastic job playing their instruments, and I am really looking forward to hearing even more great recorder playing as the school year continues! Please remember that the MBS Fifth Grade Talent Show will be the last day of school, June 13th, 2011. There will be 2 shows on last day of school. The first show will begin at 8:45 a.m., and the second show will begin at 10:15 a.m.
There will be a wide variety of talented fifth graders performing tomorrow. Students will be performing various instrumental solos, duets, there will be a variety of dances, and students singing songs. Enjoy the show!
